Frequently Asked Questions About Casting

1. Do you hold general auditions?

Yes. Even though we meet a lot of actors throughout the year in any case, and see many actors in productions throughout the city, we hold general auditions at least once a year.

General Auditions are for us to see the work of actors we haven't seen before, or actors who haven't been in contact with the Company for some time. If we already know your work, we are able to feed you into our casting process for each production.

Auditionees are asked to prepare two contrasting pieces of their choice (all styles accepted), and to bring a one-page CV and photograph to their audition.

You are encouraged to join the Artist Register to be notified of upcoming General Auditions and auditions for specific productions.

2. When do you begin casting on a show?

Casting is an ongoing process, so as soon as we know which shows we are doing we think about their casting. Some casting might be done quite soon; other roles might be cast quite late. Circumstances will always be different.

3. Can anyone audition for a particular production?

Anyone can express interest in auditioning, but finally auditions are by invitation only. Actors are contacted by the Company through the artist's agent or directly if the artist is self-represented.

4. Do you employ actors who don't have agents?

Yes, of course. It is in our interest to spread the net as wide as possible, so our contact with actors doesn't only come via agents.

5. Do you employ actors who have not trained at a recognised drama school?

Yes, of course. We employ actors who are best for the roles, no matter what their training. Still, actors without accredited training will need to have enough relevant experience on their CVs for us to recognise their potential.
