"...outstanding performances from the cast." - The Courier-Mail
"This show is an absolute cracker" - Theatre People
"David Berthold directs a fine, unvarnished production" - Greenroom
Ruben Guthrie is on fire. He's 29, he's the Creative Director of a cutting-edge advertising agency and he's engaged to a Czech supermodel. He pours himself a drink to celebrate, a drink to work, a drink to sleep and one spectacular night he drinks so much he thinks he can fly...
Ruben Guthrie is the fabulous new comedy from Australian actor and playwright Brendan Cowell. He lines up the shots for us in a heady cocktail of fizzy humour and touching revelation. It's a sparkling play about spiralling high, crashing hard and going to AA with your mum.
David Berthold directs a brand new production of this award-winning comedy with a cast led by Underbelly star, AFI and Logie winner, Gyton Grantley.

Reviews
"A play that smacks you in the face, throws up on your shoes, leads you around in circles all the while holding your hand and grinning at the joke... The cast are all excellent; but Gyton Grantley in the title role is exceptional. Do it to yourself and watch it, it may hit home harder than you realise." Scene Read the full review >>
"It's hard to decide who is the star of this show: Gyton Grantley for his brilliant performance? Or Brendan Cowell for his honest, vulnerable autobiographical script?...This is not a play to 'enjoy'; rather it is to 'live through the experience' with one or other of the characters. We all know them: family, acquaintances, social revellers, business colleagues...Gyton Grantley plays the whole gamut of emotions: abject self-loathing to euphoria. He gives us a charismatic young man to care about, to admire, to cheer for. A bravura performance." Stage Whispers Read the full review >>
"David Berthold directs a fine, unvarnished production that takes full advantage of the theatre's architectural space...Mr Cowell's witty text flows from the compassion at its heart, and its dialogue springs off the page. Berthold has orchestrated its rhythms and thematics with confidence and sensitivity. The play also needs a gutsy company to have it work the way it needs to, and the director has cast it beautifully." Greenroom Read the full review >>
"This play is masterful at showing, and cunning in its refusal to tell. The simplicity of the set's single central dais forces the actors to keep turning to engage all of the audiences and this circularity mimics the continuing round of hollow rationalisations the characters are offering us...outstanding performances from the cast." The Courier-Mail Read the full review >>
"This show is an absolute cracker- it's funny, it's honest, it's down to earth, relatable, it's dark, witty, cutting and deep, the writing positively seers and sees into our culture, the acting is absolutely superb, the space is used to its absolute potential and what's most important, this play really speaks and has some really important things to say... and since it says them really well you'd do yourself a disfavour not to go along and listen." Theatre People Read the full review >>
"Ruben Guthrie. He had us at "Hello." This is a well-crafted, well-directed ensemble piece for some of Brisbane's best actors with Gyton Grantley in the title role. With two newcomers thrown into the mix (Darren Sabadina and Lauren Orrell), it's a ruthless, unforgiving exposé on not only one man but on one man's culture." BrizTix Read the full review >>
