Environmental Initiatives
La Boite is working towards its goal of becoming a sustainable and environmentally responsible company through the following initiatives:
Waste/Recycling
- Recycling bin for ticket stubs
- Implement paperless systems
- Recycle batteries, paper, cardboard, and plastic
- Implement recycling of props and set materials e.g. recycled steel.
- Double sided printing of office documents
- Change stage design culture to implement smaller sets/less materials
- Recycle e-waste and office materials such as computer parts, office furniture, electrical leads, etc.
Energy
- Unplug appliances and turn off lights, monitors, PCs, etc.
- Analyse theatre lighting for more eco-friendly methods
- Use natural lighting and natural climate control
- Change to energy efficient equipment and appliances including light bulbs
- Innovative light design to reduce energy on sets
Water
- Implement water efficient methods for laundering costumes
- Water wise amenities
Education
- Raise awareness for staff and patrons
- Eco-efficiency education and motivational strategies
- Eco-efficiency signage/instructions
- Volunteer/engage with environmental community services
Supply Chain
- Engage eco-aware suppliers
- Engage recycling companies
- Engage with environmental community services
La Boite Eco Campaigns
- Clean Up Australia Day - The day for businesses to help clean up Australia is Tuesday 2 March, and La Boite plans to do its fair share. We'll be collecting rubbish at a site near us (to be announced), and helping to reduce pollution and responsibly manage waste.
- Earth Hour 2010 will be held on Saturday 27 March, and La Boite will be switching off to help raise awareness of climate change.
- The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) World Environment Day is held on 5 June each year to raise awareness for the environment and encourage those taking part to live sustainably. Stay tuned for how LBTC will be celebrating.
- LBTC staff took part in 2009 and will be putting on their sneakers again for National Walk to Work Day on Friday 1 October 2010.
- La Boite staff saved approximately 40kg of electronic waste from landfill by taking part in the Brisbane City Council e-Waste Recycling Collection in 2009, and will continue in 2010.
