ENGINE by Janis Balodis

This will be a highly charged theatrical event.

Set a month after a car crash, Engine is the story of 'Grumpop' who lost a grandson and Natasha who lost a brother. Natasha wants to remember Stevie by finishing the project car he was working on before the crash. Grumpop is a retired mechanic and he could help but he just wants to put it all behind him. When

Two actors play all the characters: parents, grief counsellors, driving instructors, crash dummies, ghosts and survivors. Joining them are three groups of students from Brisbane State High School, St Laurence's College and Clairvaux Mackillop College, who will devise and perform key scenes with energetic physicality. Over the year, they've been working with their teachers, NORPA and La Boite to build their unique and authentic contribution.

Every week somewhere in Australia news headlines proclaim yet another tragedy of young lives lost in a car wreck. Communities are shocked, politicians duck for cover and families are torn apart… the same story again and again. Engine is about fixing what's broken and celebrating life. It's a funny and moving roller-coaster ride that will break your heart and mend it.

After wonderful seasons in Lismore, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and Murwillumbah, Engine drives into Brisbane in August.

This project has been developed through NORPA Generator.
